Dr. Daniel Sumarriva, MD
Member of the Academy Faculty, Fellow of the Academy, Member of the WAMS Americas Division.
Daniel is the Senior Clinical Research Coordinator of the University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine, and leads the Phase 1 solid tumor trials at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. He received his medical degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and his clinical research professional certification from the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA). With more than 7 years of experience in the research field possesses an In-depth knowledge of clinical research operations, and broad experience conducting and managing research projects and clinical trials with exceptionally diverse preventive and therapeutic research background including site disease groups for Diabetes, Cardiovascular, Gastrointestinal, Oncology, and Genetics.
Daniel has previously worked in important institutions such as the University of Southern California Childhood Obesity Research Center, City of Hope National Medical Center, and Kaiser Permanente Medical Group where he oversaw national multi-center projects such as the Hereditary Breast Cancer & Novel Hispanic Mutations, the Cancer Screening & Prevention Program Network, the Hyperglycemia and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes, the Search for Diabetes in Youth and most recently various phase 1 studies in Malignant Solid Tumors. In this role Daniel spends much of his time with patients, sponsors, and health care providers coordinating the trials and solving the challenges they face in connecting to the right treatment in order to find better solutions for the subjects, the health care system and the Pharma clients.
